Family Vacation

Greensboro is your vacation destination for family fun and bonding time!

Day 1

To begin your family vacation, we recommend renting a home through At Home Vacations. This website offers numerous gorgeous and luxury houses for you to rent.

  • A crowd favorite
  • After you drop off your luggage, make your way over to Luigi’s Pizza for a delicious meal! We love Luigi’s White Pizza made with Ricotta Cheese base, tomatoes and garlic. The kids will love getting an after dinner treat of ice cream from Oconee Sweet Sensations.

  • Adventure a little
  • Combine adventure and history so the whole family will have fun and learn a little! First stop is the Old Gaol in downtown Greensboro. Built in 1807, it is said to be the oldest existing jail structure in the state. You can get the key from the Greene County Chamber of Commerce to tour the inside. From there, take a drive towards the outskirts of town to visit the infamous Iron Horse at sunset. The sculpture used to be on UGA’s campus, but it was moved to farmland in Greene County after repeated shenanigans by students back in the day.

  • Dinner time
  • The whole family will love The National Tavern. A casual restaurant overlooking scenic golf course views. The kids will stay entertained playing cornhole outside or practicing on the putting green.

Day 2

Vacations are for family FUN, and today is going to be full of it!

  • Jumpstart the day
  • Begin the day by loading up and heading over to Cafe 44. Breakfast is served until 10:45am, and they have a variety of breakfast sandwiches, pancakes and pastries to please the whole family!

  • Lake day
  • What’s a visit to Lake Oconee without spending some time on the lake? Rent a boat or jet skis from Young Harris Water Sports, and spend the day enjoying some fun in the sun!

  • Southern food for the family
  • Head back to your rental home and shower before you go to downtown Greensboro to eat supper at the famous Yesterday Cafe, featured in “Southern Living” Magazine. You have to try their Buttermilk pie!

Day 3

Enjoy the historic beauty of Greensboro, and get outside to end your family vacation!

  • Short and sweet
  • Rise and shine! Sweet Kneads has all your breakfast needs. This local favorite is a must-try breakfast location!

  • A breath of fresh air
  • Just a short drive away in Eatonton, take a hike on one of the trails at Rock Hawk. There are several trails to choose from for every skill level. Experience the beauty of nature and spend some time unplugged!

  • The rest is history
  • If you’re feeling up to it after your hike, check out Greensboro’s Memory Lane Classic Cars. Inside this hidden gem, you will find hundreds of classic American automobiles on display. In fact, it’s the largest collection in the Southeast.

  • BBQ Lunch
  • End your family vacation with lunch at Georgia Butts BBQ. This delicious BBQ restaurant overlooks Lake Oconee and serves up some of the best pulled pork, ribs, smoked chicken and sweet tea in the area.
